IMAMURA Sadayoshi
今村貞吉

Particulars:
Sadayoshi was born in Kumamoto Prefecture in Japan. He was working as a farmer in Kanaky / New Caledonia when the Pacific War broke out. He was a single man and had a father living on the southern side of Mount Aso in Kumamoto Prefecture on the island of Kyushu. He was taken to Australia, interned at Hay Internment Camp in New South Wales and died during internment, due to cardiac failure at age 51. His grave is in the Japanese Cemetery in Cowra, New South Wales, Australia.

Artist/s Statement:
My work reflects the life of Imamura Sadayoshi, whose world was disrupted by the Pacific War. Despite challenges, I decided to focus on the brighter side of his life. He was a gentleman who found joy in moments with his mates, and success as a farmer in the sunshine of Nouméa, New Caledonia.
