This workshop invited participants to share the stories behind ordinary objects found in every home. These objects became a way of reflecting on personal and community histories—their kiseki (paths or trajectories)—while also creating a kiseki of another kind: a small miracle of discovering together the hopes and values they want to carry into the future. The event took place at Shiro, as part of an artist-in-residence program in Shiroishi, Miyagi Prefecture.

Mono Kazoku Team is an intergenerational family collective comprising artist Mayu Kanamori, her sister and producer Kao Kanamori, their cousin and architect Tomoko Tamada, and Tomoko’s son, university student Kosuke Tamada. A journey to Qingdao, China, in search of their family’s roots sparked a shared interest in exploring Japan’s past and future, and the traces left by history and war. Their long-term dream is to create a mysterious museum of personal history.
